This fan/light combo is cute as can be. I put it in my grandchild's playroom at my house and she loves it. Very quiet and ever so sweet. Blades are flowered on one side and plain pink on the other so they can be changed.

can't tell you how many compliments we've had on this fan...way too cute...only drawback is it uses low wattage chandelier bulbs so not much light is given off it and its the main light in our daughter's room

Great fan for baby girl room

This was a great deal on Amazon when comparing prices across Target, Home Depot, etc. This is great addition to the nursery for our baby girl and look forward to many years of use. Yes, I am a fan of this fan! The bronze with wooden blades is very nice looking. The fan creates a lot of airflow and is great in my bedroom. There are two lengths for the downrod. I used the minimum-lenght downrod. From the ceiling to the blades, it's about 12''. With the light installed, the fan hangs down approx. 16.5''.I love the remote control, but I also bought the wall switch. Both the remote and the wall switch can control the light independently of the fan, and you may dim the light which is a very nice feature. But do be aware that on this model, you need to manually slide the switch on the switch cup on the fan itself to reverse the rotation of the blades. The switch pushed to the left is for summer operation, and the switch pushed to the right is for winter operation.I did about 95% of the assembly of the fan and then hired an electrician to install (I did not have an existing mounting box). I couldn't be happier! Great product, great price. Thank you!

Light is awful, then stopped working

Buyer beware. The light is not great for a living area. The bulb it ships with is not very bright, but the dome is so frosted that the light is very diffuse and almost like having no light at all. We were hoping it would replace the floor lamp we use but it doesn't put out as much light as a 75-watt bulb. We bought a 150 watt replacement bulb (the unit states it can take up to 190 watt) for something like $4 off Amazon and it worked great. Even with the overly frosted dome, the light was almost acceptable.Until the Sunday before Christmas. The lights no longer work. The fan responds to the remote, but there's no way to get the lights on. We've tried cycling power, resetting the light kit connection, swapping out LED bulbs, changing the radio frequency, and no luck. What a disappointment. At least the fan still works ...EDIT: The fan started working again a little after New Year's -- I updated the review to 2 stars -- then it stopped working again another two weeks later. We finally contacted the company and got a great response from them. They identified the problem quickly over the phone and sent us out a brand new remote control receiver without charge. They told us that it was easy to install, but told us to call if we had any questions.The receiver came very quickly and included extra wires, screws, wire caps, etc. There were no directions, but it was simple enough to replace the old receiver. The hardest part was dealing with the fan's top canopy itself, as it can be tough to get those screws in correctly at such a weird angle (same with any fan). I was able to quickly replace the receiver unit.Since then, everything has been working well. We put the 150 watt bulb back in and it's been bright enough for our purposes. The dimming feature was annoying initially, but now that we have a working receiver it's not so bad. We should have called customer service earlier, but I dread dealing with most companies' customer service...Bottom line, here are the positive features:* Auto dimming* Lots of air flow even at low settings* Power efficiency -- one of the most efficient fans we found while researching* Great customer service: quick troubleshooting, no-questions part replacement* Pretty much silent operation* "Slim" profile -- it's close to the ceiling and there's no chance of someone running into it accidentally (this was a big factor in our initial purchase)The negative features:* 100 watt bulb is a little dark for our family room, maybe it would be better in an enclosed bedroom* Frosted glass on light dome is a little thick, doesn't let quite enough light through* Original packaging included shoddy remote receiver unit, but customer service did replace quickly at no cost* No manual controls whatsoever. If the remote receiver dies after warranty is up, I'm concerned about the ability to replace the receiver.I would give probably 3.5 stars at this point, now that we've owned it for a few months. Since I can't give half stars, I think I'd err on the side of 3 stars instead of 4 because of the original problems we had.At the time of purchase, it was the only unit that we could find in our price range that had built-in remote control, had a slim profile, was reasonably energy efficient, and satisfied my wife's style requirements (dark traditional blades). If you're thinking about this unit and it meets your needs, I'd recommend it, but keep the customer service phone number handy just in case.

Balanced well, but hums

I bought this fan to replace a very annoying (humming loudly) fan in my bedroom. I was VERY disappointed to learn that this fan also hums. Not nearly as bad as my old one, but still noticeable. I took great pains to install this fan perfectly, absolutely secure to the ceiling using heavy duty ceiling fan box and reinforcement, and I have made doubly sure that there are no loose fasteners, etc. Unfortunately, it seems the hum is coming from the motor windings...so nothing I can do. On a positive note, I will say that this is probably the best balanced fan I've ever seen. Absolutely perfectly balanced...which is nice. I just wish it didn't hum. I suppose this fan's hum wouldn't bother me so much if it wasn't in my bedroom.

I purchased these fans as I'm 6'2", ceilings are 8' and they seemed to be the fans with the blades closest to the ceiling so I don't lose a hand while I'm getting dressed in the morning. We purchased 4 of these fans, as well as another model from Minka Aire. Compared to the other model of Minka Aire (purchased from Restoration Hardware), these are much easier to install. They have not wobbled, move air nicely. They light is perhaps not the most attractive, but it lights the room well. The base of these fans are larger than other fans, and may appear bulkier towards the ceiling.However, it is a bit more complex than a screwdriver and electrical tape to install, as another reviewer mentioned. The ceiling fan has to be secured to the ceiling in an appropriate fashion, either attached directly to a ceiling joist, or through brace b/n the ceiling joists. (westinghouse Saf-T Brace). The person installing it has to have a knowledge of how to attach wires.After I installed all 5 fans, I noticed that each remote control operated every fan in the house. There was instructions in the manual to avoid remote control interference, but this did not work. I did call the support, who were helpful, but did mention that the instructions in the fans to avoid interference was not clearly written in the manual. How to fix the problem is as follows:1. turn off the power on the electrical box2. disconnect the black and white electrical connections on all fans except one3. turn on the power4. remove the back piece from the remote control (easily removed) and find ZONE and NUMBER5. change one combination6. hold the "stop" button on the remote control for 10 seconds, or until the ceiling fan light will blink twice7. Now disconnect this ceiling fan's electrical connections, move to the next ceiling fan and repeat the process

great ceiling-hugger fan

Had a hard time finding a low-profile (ceiling hugger) fan we liked. There's not a lot to choose from out there, especially if you don't want the light. This fan gives you the option to go with or without the light, which is a great feature. Fan looks great and is very stable and quiet.07/20/11 update: Recently bought two more of these fans for upstairs bedrooms. One of the new fans runs silently, just like the the first one we bought for the family room downstairs. The other new fan makes a very noticeable humming sound that gets louder as the fan speed is increased. I called Minka-Aire customer support and they told me to return the fan and get a new one. I apparently just got a bad unit. A fan in this price range should be silent (other than the sound of moving air), so if you get one that makes any noise at all it should be returned. This is where Amazon's fantastic return policy pays off.10/09/12 update: Should have followed up on this a long time ago. The fan noise ended up being a mounting problem - nothing to do with the fan. Have had three running for well over a year now and they've all been great.

How to fix the problem is as follows:1. turn off the power on the electrical box2. disconnect the black and white electrical connections on all fans except one3. turn on the power4. remove the back piece from the remote control (easily removed) and find ZONE and NUMBER5. change one combination6. hold the "stop" button on the remote control for 10 seconds, or until the ceiling fan light will blink twice7. Now disconnect this ceiling fan's electrical connections, move to the next ceiling fan and repeat the process

Minka ceiling fan

great ceiling-hugger fan

Had a hard time finding a low-profile (ceiling hugger) fan we liked. There's not a lot to choose from out there, especially if you don't want the light. This fan gives you the option to go with or without the light, which is a great feature. Fan looks great and is very stable and quiet.07/20/11 update: Recently bought two more of these fans for upstairs bedrooms. One of the new fans runs silently, just like the the first one we bought for the family room downstairs. The other new fan makes a very noticeable humming sound that gets louder as the fan speed is increased. I called Minka-Aire customer support and they told me to return the fan and get a new one. I apparently just got a bad unit. A fan in this price range should be silent (other than the sound of moving air), so if you get one that makes any noise at all it should be returned. This is where Amazon's fantastic return policy pays off.10/09/12 update: Should have followed up on this a long time ago. The fan noise ended up being a mounting problem - nothing to do with the fan. Have had three running for well over a year now and they've all been great.

not energy freindly

well, all the positive reviews are spot on. However i wished someone mentioned these uses E11 (T4mini) bulbs.There are no energy saving alternatives for E11 bulbs. you have to use halogen bulbs in them and my 11x13 room is pretty dim with the 75W that came with, i'm probably going to use 100w. The bulbs do produce a lot of heat. not to mention $4-5 a bulb to replace couple times a year (only 2000hr life) and cost of all that energy. You'll be spending a lot more on these fans down the road compare to one that can use energy saving bulbs.

Gorgeous.

These ceiling fans are very nice. I bought three of them a while back and finally had them installed. They are quite sleek looking, almost boardering on industrial.They made a slight humming sound when they run, and they light the room very well.The fans work great.Since I didn't put them together myself, I can't attest to the installation.One thing I want to note is that these are very good sized ceiling fans. Compared to the ones I've used before, I'd call this one large. I didn't realize when I bought them how big they are. It's not a problem for me at all, but I felt it worth mentioning.

Great, Modern Fan

I purchased 2 of these fans at two separate times for my living room. They are very sleek and stylish. However, one fan was packed securely and had outer wrapping, the other came in the fan box itself. The second fan arrived dented, and luckily my husband was able to fix it. These fans are very quiet and provide quite a bit of light, just be sure to inspect yours carefully!

Very Good Quality, Quiet Running Fan

I have been living with the Minka Aire Mesa ceiling fan for a couple of weeks, now, and find the fan to be an excellent value and capable of moving a good amount of air within my relatively small (10' x 13') office. I am also very happy with its quiet operation.

great fan

Bought this for my daughter & son-in-law's bedroom. The have a high king size bed and the old fan was not a ceiling hugger and with the lights it cut down head clearance. They didn't want lights. This was pretty easy to install. Instructions were very good. Support bracket is very strong and the motor is quiet. You have to assemble the fan blades which took about 20 min. Shipping was quick and the price was very good.

Nice Looking

We purchased this fan for a flush-mount bedroom ceiling using a Hunter remote control. The fan finish was high quality and looked good. Assembly and installation was relatively simple. With the flush mounting, it was a little tight getting the wires into the canopy, especially since I also had to install and wire the remote receiver. I was installing 2 of the same fans, but the mounting and canopy was different between the two. Turned out I had an older version and a newer version. The older version was impossible to flush mount with the remote receiver; I had to use the short rod, and that was still quite difficult. The newer version, with a more open mounting bracket and canopy, even with the flush mount, with some effort, worked fine. The model numbers were the same, so I am unsure how you know which version you are purchasing. The fan is quiet and was wobble-free.

A wonderful fan for the price!

Though it took a little over an hour to assemble and mount, the work was worth the wait! We drop mounted this fan in one of our bedrooms with the light oak side of the blades showing--nice understated contrast. The blade mount ornamentation/hardware design is one of the nicest we have seen. Very nice touch. It is a solid state fan and is "whisper quiet" when running. A quality product for such an amazing price!

there were not many reviews about this fan. and the one there was, was not very convincing. but because it's a hunter, and i liked the design, being different then all the others, i took a chance. i'm happy to tell you that i am more then pleased with my purchase. it's a beautiful fan and was very easy to install.so much so that i did it by myself. and i am a 5'3" woman. contrary to what other reviewers said about hunter fans, it does come with 2 heavy extended chains with the hunter logo pull. and it also comes with 3 - 60 watt candelabra base b10 bulbs. and unlike what the other reviewer said,about her shades melting, well so far it has not melted my shades, which are plastic on the inside and a nice sturdy material on the outside. it is very quiet which was my main concern being this was going to be installed in my bedroom. and i am the type of person that wil awake at the sound of a pin drop. the blades are reversable, a light redish tone wood on one side and a medium brownish wood tone on the other. it has 3 speed settings and a reverse. all that said, i highly recommend it to anyone in need of a good quality ceiling fan. in my opinion, hunter is the best, and at this price, you cannot go wrong.i shopped around and as always Amazon had the best price plus free shipping! your getting great quality at a great price, what more can you ask for. so do not hesitate if your thinking about this fan. go for it, you won't be sorry. oh yes shipping was extremely fast, and all you need to put it together is a philips screw driver. took me maybe half an hour while watching tv, and it was up and installed in 15 minutes! i also recommend you get the: Westinghouse Lighting 0110000 Saf-T-Brace for Ceiling Fans, 3 Teeth, Twist and Lock.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00027EWNW/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_titleif you do not already have an electric box where you want to install the fan, or you cannot get up into the attic. this product made it so easy a caveman can do it! hahaha it comes with the bar,and the box, everything you need except the electrical wire. and if your thinking why spend the extra money when i could just go up there and put a piece of 2x4 in between the joists. well i thought the same thing, and it's not as easy as you may think. it saves you the time and extra work of having to go up into the attic, measure the space between the joists, cutting the 2x4 and then going back up to screw in place. not to mention the strength and screws it would require to screw a 2x4 to another 2x4 on both sides level and at the right depth. if you don't get it right the first time you'll have to go up and reposition etc etc etc. sound worth it to you yet?

Light issues

Good fan bad lights very dim. I am on my third light kit first one lasted 4 months second 6 months. The light kit just quits working all together plastic discoloration by light bulb. I have only used light bulbs that come from the factory as the fixture has not outlasted the bulbs. Only good thing I can say is hunter backs up their warranty I have received two free light kits but I do not expect the third kit to last longer than 6 months. I have other hunter fans that are great but I do not recommend this model.

shades are not working

I bought 2 of the same of these fans . It is labelled 60W max light can be used after few hours of 60w lights all the shades inside plastic melted and out side shade cover destroyed.What ami gonna go take off the whole fan which is working unit and return it for shades. was it too difficult for hunter to says max 40w or less if they use checp material shades. very unhappy with it

there were not many reviews about this fan. and the one there was, was not very convincing. but because it's a hunter, and i liked the design, being different then all the others, i took a chance. i'm happy to tell you that i am more then pleased with my purchase. it's a beautiful fan and was very easy to install.so much so that i did it by myself. and i am a 5'3" woman. contrary to what other reviewers said about hunter fans, it does come with 2 heavy extended chains with the hunter logo pull. and it also comes with 3 - 60 watt candelabra base b10 bulbs. and unlike what the other reviewer said,about her shades melting, well so far it has not melted my shades, which are plastic on the inside and a nice sturdy material on the outside. it is very quiet which was my main concern being this was going to be installed in my bedroom. and i am the type of person that wil awake at the sound of a pin drop. the blades are reversable, a light redish tone wood on one side and a medium brownish wood tone on the other. it has 3 speed settings and a reverse. all that said, i highly recommend it to anyone in need of a good quality ceiling fan. in my opinion, hunter is the best, and at this price, you cannot go wrong.i shopped around and as always Amazon had the best price plus free shipping! your getting great quality at a great price, what more can you ask for. so do not hesitate if your thinking about this fan. go for it, you won't be sorry. oh yes shipping was extremely fast, and all you need to put it together is a philips screw driver. took me maybe half an hour while watching tv, and it was up and installed in 15 minutes! i also recommend you get the: Westinghouse Lighting 0110000 Saf-T-Brace for Ceiling Fans, 3 Teeth, Twist and Lock.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00027EWNW/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_titleif you do not already have an electric box where you want to install the fan, or you cannot get up into the attic. this product made it so easy a caveman can do it! hahaha it comes with the bar,and the box, everything you need except the electrical wire. and if your thinking why spend the extra money when i could just go up there and put a piece of 2x4 in between the joists. well i thought the same thing, and it's not as easy as you may think. it saves you the time and extra work of having to go up into the attic, measure the space between the joists, cutting the 2x4 and then going back up to screw in place. not to mention the strength and screws it would require to screw a 2x4 to another 2x4 on both sides level and at the right depth. if you don't get it right the first time you'll have to go up and reposition etc etc etc. sound worth it to you yet?

Light issues

Good fan bad lights very dim. I am on my third light kit first one lasted 4 months second 6 months. The light kit just quits working all together plastic discoloration by light bulb. I have only used light bulbs that come from the factory as the fixture has not outlasted the bulbs. Only good thing I can say is hunter backs up their warranty I have received two free light kits but I do not expect the third kit to last longer than 6 months. I have other hunter fans that are great but I do not recommend this model.

shades are not working

I bought 2 of the same of these fans . It is labelled 60W max light can be used after few hours of 60w lights all the shades inside plastic melted and out side shade cover destroyed.What ami gonna go take off the whole fan which is working unit and return it for shades. was it too difficult for hunter to says max 40w or less if they use checp material shades. very unhappy with it
