2Still not production ready
By S. Chung
I purchased one of these fairly expensive ceiling fans for our large family room. I've had it for a few months now.Pros:1. Looks sleek, especially with the tapered blades2. Has 6 speeds for the fans, more than most other fans3. Fan is very quite - at higher speeds you get wind noise, but no audible motor noise4. Remembers the last setting even after power outage5. Moves lots of air at high settings6. Energy efficientCons:1. The fan buzzes loudly all the time whenever light is turned on - As long as the light setting is "on" (regardless of whether bulbs are installed or not) the unit buzzes loudly2. Lighting is mediocre - Does not provide good ambient lighting - there is glare directly underneath the fan, but other areas of the room stay somewhat dark - Uses uncommon GU-24 socket CFL's3. No flush-mount option for standard height ceilings - instead they have a problematic "short" downrod option4. Doesn't come with wall-mount option for the remote control5. Difficult to install - No wire to hang fan to anchor during installation, so you have to hold up the fan near the ceiling while you attach the power wires, which means you need at least two people perched on ladders - Short rod is incredibly tricky and difficult to install, things just don't seem to fitSo, no matter how energy efficient that fan is, I just can't stand the loud buzzing. We have standard 8-ft ceilings so we purchased the short rod so it wouldn't hang down too low, but that proved very difficult to install (things just don't fit right with the short rod). I had to pay an electrician $150 to install it for me, and even he had a difficult time installig it. At one point he was about to give up saying the parts just didn't fit, but after one last push we finally were able to get the rod pins into the rod. However after he installed it we noticed the loud constant buzzing. Emerson customer support admitted that this was not an uncommon problem, and at first said it was probably the receiver and offered to send me a new receiver (the small box inside the fan that receives commands from teh remote). But then later they said they had replaced receivers for other customers and the buzzing still continued, so they said they would send me an entire new fan.So after a few weeks I received a new fan from Emerson, and lo and behold the new fan has the exact same problem! Whenever the lights are turned on, it gives off a high pitched electrical buzzing noise. This time I took it apart and found out what the cause was. It was in fact the electronic receiver. Whenever the light turned "on" so that the receiver routes power to the light fixture, it buzzes (doesn't matter if the light bulbs are in or not). Since there is nothing drawing power, this means that the relay or electrical switch mechanism they use for the lights is just very poorly designed and/or manufactured. Not what I would expect in a higher priced fan like this one.So now I have to wait for them to send me a third fan, and in the mean time we can't use the light because the high pitched buzzing drives us crazy.Overall, this fan is not worth the money, even if it didn't buzz so loudly (in my opinion, the features should yield a price point of about $250-$300, not the $400+ it's currently priced at). But combine the high price with the issues, it's not something I would recommend to anyone right now, at least until they redesign their electronics.

4Lots of airflow and energy efficient
By Bruce Hellmich
This fan is very energy efficient and moves lots and lots of air. On High it only takes 24 watts and less than 5 watts on low. It is built with a newly designed DC motor using permanent magnets to accomplish this level of efficiency and it has 6 speeds. It is easy for one person to install as it allows you to hang the fan and THEN wire it in. You don't have to have another person hold the fan while you wire it in like some fans do. The instructions were mostly easy to understand but a tad confusing as to which side of the blades were supposed to face the ceiling. It has a tag on each blade "This side up", but you install the blades when the fan motor is upside down sitting on the floor. I installed them wrong after I realized that it circulated air upward amazingly well, but didn't blow down. I removed the blades reversed them and all was fine. It would have been clearer if the tag on each blade had said "This side towards Ceiling" as that would have removed any doubt as to their orientation while assembling. It is almost inaudible on the first two speeds and on the higher speeds you can hear the movement of air but never the motor. I did not experience any "buzzing" of the lights when turned on like some others report. The only small downside is that you cannot dim the lights as it uses 4 Compact Florescent with a color temperature of 2700K to mimic the color of incandescent lights. They are either on or off. Remote works fine, but uses one of those 12v garage door opener batteries rather than easily attainable AAA. It doesn't wobble one bit.If you run a fan all the time for air circulation this fan certainly is one of the most economical and quietest fans you can run. Paid $419 on Amazon and it was $700 at a local lighting store. I considered Casablanca, but went with this one because of the low energy use.It is a really well built fan but I gave it a four because the lights can't be dimmed, installation of the blades could have been clearer, and the remote doesn't use a common size battery.

4good, but it should be
By David Johnson
This is a very good fan. It is very quiet; far more so than other remote control fans I have had. It is reasonably easy to install. It is heavy, so the initial push up to the hanging bracket can be difficult, but since the remote reciever is built in, there are few wires to deal with. There are lots of parts one needs to install, not hard, but it does take a awhile. The parts list could be more explanatory; it can be difficult to know what screw is what. It has one fault, in my opinion. that is the funky light bulbs. It uses four pin type CF bulbs that are nearly impossible to find at your local big box store. It outputs a reasonableamount of light, but probably not enought to be the sole light source in large room. The blades are directional. That means they need to be installed exactly as the directions state or it simply will not move much air. But with the blades installed correctly, it does blow like a hurricane! Also, it comes with a good remote. It does not take the place of a light switch, but there is a holder so you can mount it near a switch if you wish. Many places, including Amazon, offer another remote. This one needs to mounted in wall box and it takes a rare battery. So, unless you are a remote control collector, the one that is included is probably fine. For $450, I expected more.

5Kichler fan
By GRG
The fan was as advertised. I installed as a ceiling hugger, without the downrod, in a bathroom. The instructions were easy to follow. The fan installed quickly and is operating nicely--it moves a lot of air quietly. It also has a very good look. I would definitely consider fan or another Kichler fan again.

5Great little fan!
By K. Crum
This Casablanca was easy to install, looks great, and is silent when it's on. I was hesitant based on other reviews but this thing is a great choice. I went with it over the hunter because it has 5 blades vs 4 and Casablanca fans are traditionally higher quality. Definitely recommend.BTW...there is no beep made by this fan as the other reviewer states. They must have bought a wall control that beeps.

3Casablanca is now a Hunter
By Margaret E. Duvall
I purchased 3 of these fans - installed 1 and it sounded like a Hunter fan and looked like a Hunter fan (blades and mounts are are identical to Hunter). Vendor advised that Hunter bought out Casablanca. We had Casablanca fans in the past which were very quiet and well balanced, unlike the fan just purchased. The only reason I have to keep this fan is because I installed it and is not returnable (even if it's unsatisfactory). My parents have had 2 Casablanca fans - one over 20 years old and one over 5 years old - NEVER A PROBLEM from installation to operation over all these years. It's a shame, too, that Hunter/Casablanca are now made in China - hence, all the problems!!! I bought a Hunter in a Casablanca box!!!

4Needed close to surface fan
By David W. Gray
Excellent product! The fan has three speeds and operates very quietly - got the job done. One problem - The add indicates that one side of the blades are painted white and the other is washed oak(or something similar). One side is white but the other side is coved with a fake plastic finish. We had planed to refinish the non white side and stain it to match our wood ceiling - not possible with there plastic coating! We are living with the white side but were very disappointed - false advertising!!!

This fixture is UL listed for a hardwire connection in a dry location. Casablanca Fan Company is dedicated to bringing consumers quality in every detail.

5Fashion + Function = this fan!
By CX
I bought this fan to replace the ugly ceiling light that came with my bedroom and to add visual interest and airflow. I'm very happy with my purchase so far.As far as style goes, this fan is absolutely perfect for anyone who wants a break from run-of-the-mill, boring white or wooden fans. The gunmetal finish looks awesome, and the reversible gray/black fan blades are a nice touch. As for function, the fan was pretty straightforward to put together. No special tools required. For its size, the fan puts out a pretty nice breeze on the highest of its 3 speed settings. I was also glad to find a sweet looking fan that had a built in light. I must say, the light isn't the brightest it could be, but I personally like it that way. It runs very smoothly and quietly. No annoying motor hum, just a whisper in the background.I'd highly recommend this fan for anyone that's looking for airflow in a smaller space without sacrificing style.

    5Very Pleased with the Fans
    By K. Patel
Yes, I mean Fans, I bought 6 of these fans from Amazon over a period of a month and very happy with all of them. We installed all the fans our selves, of course the first one took sometime, but the rest went pretty quick and the installation was not that bad.Pros: Quiet fan, doesn't wobble, Classy looking esp the Brushed Nickel finish, Warm weather/cold weather settingsFew things that could be better: some of the things in the box could have been assembled and ready to use, the light side of the reversible blade is a bit too light, hard to match things with it, the dark side only comes in rosewood, few more darker color options will be nice to haveI would recommend this fan to anyone who is looking for a fan on low price end and quality stuff.

5Great Fans - Wish I had more rooms to put them in
    By Randy Erickson
So far I have purchased and hung seven (7) of these fans, replacing every ceiling fan in the house. Not only are they stylish and virtually silent and perfectly balanced, customer service from Westinghouse was fantastic. With the fans being shipped from Westinghouse to Amazon then to UPS and to my house, only one globe came broken out of a total of 21 of them. I called Westinghouse directly and was treated very nicely. A replacement globe was sent out and arrived in less than a week. I have no complaints with this fan or Westinghouse. If you're looking for a brushed nickel and rosewood fan, you'll be very happy with these fans. Their quick hang design had each one up in about 15-30 minutes including assembly time. You can't go wrong with these.

4Better than I thought it would be...
    By KM
After looking at Lowes, I was angry that I could only find candelabra lights on their ceiling fans. I figured I'd order one online, but eventually found out some MORON passed a law a few years back saying ceiling fans can ONLY have candelabra lights!!! WHY? THat is just stupid! So I ordered some candelabra conversion fixtures to aid me in my quest for better lighting, and ordered this fan, knowing I could fix the problem. We got it installed last weekend, and it turned out MUCH better than I thought it would be. I'm flooded with light, and did not feel the need to replace the bulbs, or use the conversion fixtures. I still think it's criminal for some bureaucrat to tell me what I can and can not use for my own lights in my own home, but this is not automatically going to need more light. I'm using it in a bedroom, and it's plenty of light in there. Not sure it would do in a kitchen, but my husband liked it so much he made me go out and buy him a fan for his office, too.You can gripe about the candelabra lights (and I agree), but since you can't get anything else in a ceiling fan anymore, you might as well accept it, and get the conversion sockets if you need more light. (Search "Candelabra to Medium Socket Enlarger" on Amazon. $2. each) I'd wait til it's installed, first, though, as it puts out quite a bit of light as is, and you may not need the converters. As to the fan itself, I love it. Still too cool here in NH to use it yet, but it looks good, quietly moves the air in testing, and was easily enough installed. It does provide a hook to make holding it easier while you connect the wires, with the only hard part being getting it to connect on both sides to the screws, when you push it up to the ceiling. It's heavy, and unwieldy, and you can't see both sides at once, so it is helpful to have someone help with that last bit, but otherwise, easy peasy. : )INSTALL NOTE: I strongly urge you to tape a cover over the top motor housing holes while installing it. My husband dropped the tiny screws several times while wrestling it into position, and we had to take it off to shake out the screws and washers every time, until he finally listened, and put a paper cover on the holes to stop the screw from falling in. You won't regret it, as the screws are VERY tiny, and easy to drop. Not so easy to shake out, though.

We purchased two of these braces to install ceiling fans in a drop ceiling. Upon opening the box the instructions and the parts do not agree with each other and if you look at the picture on their site and Amazon thd bar isn't even installed in the clips. The clips that go on to the "short" bar kept sliding off and when they would stay they bowed the ceiling grid and would not sit flush with the grid or tile. In fact the clips for the short and long brace damaged the ceiling tile. After dealing with the brace it was time for the chains, the "s" hooks are too big and kept falling off the chain as you tried to install it. I had to grab a pair of channel locks and restrict the "s" hook so the chain would stay on. After dealing with that, you have to hook it up to the eyelette on the back of the box. The instructions don't tell you to unscrew the eyeletes to give you some room for adjustment. If you install it as received you will not have enough travel in eyelete to adjust. Also it doesn't tell you to knock out your plugs before installing the box. Was a pitb once installed. Also the plugs on the bottom of the box are useless because the bracing is in the way. With all the issues I've had I would avoid this system and go spend the exra money and get the Arlington brace.

This is a good product for hanging heavy light fixtures or paddle fans from a suspended cieling. The product even has a safety chain to prevent items from crashing down.Great idea!

5Just about every part you need to attach a light to drywall
    By BigMontana
So I bought this so I could attach a normal light fixture to a drop ceiling panel because I did not have sufficient headroom for a recessed light. This kit contained a lot more than I needed but should have everything for your situation. In my case I have a 2'x2' grid and my light fixture (not a fan) was <10 pounds. I only used one of the braces and did not use the chain as I thought it unnecessary for my situation. Yes there is another part here at amazon that seems more appropriate but this one is cheaper and you never know how you are going to attach these things until you have everything apart. On lesson learned is cut the hold for the electrical box smaller than the electrical box. You want the electrical box to ride on top of the tile and the screws from your fixture to pinch the tile between it and the box. The first tile I cut I made it the same size and the trim kit would not snug up to the ceiling tile. Your mileage may vary and I am no expert electrician or on county code...but this did exactly what I wanted. I needed to put a normal flush mount light on a drop ceiling tile. FYI if you haven't thought about it already this all means that the light fixture is attached to the tile and if you want to remove tiles you will have to disassemble the light fixture or have room above the drop to accommodate the box, tile, and light fixture. In my case with the low clearance above the tile I will have to disassemble but that is a small price to pay to get the light where you need it. Very happy to have amazon on this one as 5 hardware stores I went to just gave me blank looks and pointed to recessed lights

5Well made, runs quiet, simple classy styling
    By Thomas A. Neyland
I needed to replace the very cheaply priced ceiling fan in our bedroom, which we'd had for years. It had developed a noisy motor vibration on low speed. Fans in the other rooms are Concord huggers (we have low ceilings) but Concord huggers, which are quiet, have heavier motors and are bargain priced, are not made any more so I got the Emerson. The Emerson's motor is smaller than the Concord's, but I think Emerson has been making ceiling fans as long as anybody. No complaints about the motor--it runs quiet which is what I wanted. Although it's about $30 more than the Concords, it's reasonably priced compared to other brands of its blade and motor size. The design is simple but classy. We're very satisfied with the Emerson.

    5Great Fans - quiet/good value
    By Ken Wheeler
We ordered three of these fans to finish off the walkout basement family room and 2 adjacent bedrooms in a new home we built. The height is only 8.5ft downstairs and these fans seemed perfect since they do not hang down fare from the ceiling. They went up fast and are very quiet. We are certainly pleased and we recommend this fan highly.

    5Quiet and elegant
    By Debra Ann Dargay
We wanted a quiet fan, oil-rubbed bronze, ceiling-hugger. Not too much out there to fit our criteria, believe it or not. Ordered this expecting perhaps that we wouldn't like it. It looks great, fits our decor and is quiet - everything we wanted and the price was decent compared to other fans we were looking at.
