5Easy installation, quiet operation, high output, sleek look
By J. Danforth
I bought this ceiling fan to replace a ineffably ugly light fixture in our bedroom. I have 8-foot ceilings and was concerned that this ceiling-hugging fan with its rather short blade length wouldn't do the job. I was mistaken. Even operating at full speed the fan is very quiet and puts out ample breeze for our bedroom which is roughly 15x15 feet. The instructions were well written and helpful. The accessories included were more than sufficient to do the job. It's always nice to have a few spare bits and bobs left over after something like this. The wall controller was outfitted with interchangeable wall plates and covers so you can choose from "ivory" (putty, beige, whatever) or white. I went with white. The whole thing installed very well. There are a few well-thought-out things in here like the hook for you to hang the motor on while you make the wire connections, the rubber gasket between the light kit and the motor (for sound dampening, I presume), and the use of a cotton-wool insulation material instead of the itchy yellow fiberglass crap that comes in lesser ceiling fans. That brings me to the only gripe that I have with the fan: the wall controller. The wall controller is responsive, easy to install, and pre-programmed, but there is a bright green LED light that shines out the bottom of the switch at all times when the switch has power from the breaker. I don't know if Minka means for this to be a feature (night light?) but I find it highly annoying considering this fan is installed in a bedroom. I have not found a legitimate way to disable this light and I don't understand the reason for its existence. None of my wall outlets have lights on them at all times reminding me that "Hey! You! You can plug something into me and I'll make it work! C'mon! Give it a try!" all night long. The light kit comes with a 100w halogen E11 "medium base" bulb. The bulb features include 1) emitting ample light for getting dressed and 2) ample heat to cook toast and eggs while getting dressed. I suggest that you replace with a dimmable LED alternative. There is also a tiny hole (about 1/8") in the center of the glass dome. I don't know the function of this hole. It bothers me that it's there but I know full-well that _I_ am crazy so I can't discount Minka-Aire a whole star for the mystery light-dome hole or the obnoxious LED of Wakefulness.Highly recommended.

5Stylish and Quiet!
By Hopelessly Caffeinated in Phoenix
I have a small office that needed some air circulating, but I also work in this office all day and can't have noise from a fan be an issue. In addition, my office has only 8-foot ceilings, so a flush-mount fan that is relatively low-profile was a must. Suffice it to say that finding one that fit all of the requirements and actually looked good was a task unto itself. This fan is exactly what I was hoping for, with 1 minor caveat. I love the in-wall remote performs exceptionally well and looks nice! Don't be confused by the description as I was - this does NOT come with a hand-held remote - if you want one, you have to buy it separately. The fan itself projects downward perhaps 18 inches total, so it is relatively close to the ceiling. It also is incredibly quiet while on the 1 and 2 speeds (in both rotational directions). Speed 3 really kicks out some insane air, but that speed does make a small amount of sound - not an off-balanced thunking kind of a noise, but a whooshing due to how much air it moves. The blades are sculpted in a way that makes them concave, so they further help to move the air around. All things considered, this is a great ceiling fan! I am very impressed. The only thing that I was not jumping with joy on is that the blades are plastic. For what this costs, I really expected wood. They don't look cheap or anything though, so it is a minor thing. Just don't be shocked when you open the box and that's what you find. Also, this fan's remote 'remote' must be wired into the wall, so if you aren't comfortable with doing some electrical work, you will want to have a professional install this. It is not as simple as just putting a fan in place of where a light used to be - the switch will need to be utterly swapped out with what Minka provides for the device's controls, so this is probably one of the more complicated ceiling fan installations. It is well worth it, but perhaps worth note for anyone who's a DIYer but not comfortable with more invasive electrical work.

5Great value
By Monkey Allen
I am so happy I purchased this fan. I would buy it again and recommend it to all. The price is GREAT when considering what you are getting. Similarly styled fans are easily several hundred more, if not even over a thousand.Pros- stylish- less than 11" off the ceiling (if you are also considering the minka concept 2, then go to minka's website and compare fan specs, for this fan is closer than the concept 2 to the ceiling with the light on)- cool wall switch- super easy to install- all metal housing and brackets- fan blades look good- small, bright 100 W mini halogen bulb; although, I do have the fan in a very small room)Cons- you might need to get a larger wall switch box to accommodate the included switch
