I needed to replace a larger fan due to the installation of a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe, which interfered with the original fan's blades. This is the third small diameter fan that I purchased to be that replacement. The first two were less expensive (by half) but both were horribly noisy -completely unsuitable for a nursery bedroom. The Minka was the first quiet one. Usually the noise factor is a function of the motor design, pancake versus what I call 'washing machine' motors. The pancale motors have an inherent hum that seems to be louder the cheaper it is made. these two previous fans were pancake style and they could be heard two floors down in the basement. The Minka is quiet, with only airflow noise. The reason for only 4 stars is that it exhibits a slight wobble, which I have yet to get balanced out.
